Always check the Akismet spam folder
Jun. 16th, 2007 by ShaunAkismat is probably one of the most used wordpress pluings to date. This system is very helpful in keeping blog comment spam minimal but the system is not exactly perfect. I have always read that less than 1% of the comments that get blocked are not spam and I came across a comment that wasn’t spam for the first time.
I would recommend checking the spam folder once or twice a week to make sure you haven’t blocked any legit comments. Some of you might say “but Shaun it’s only 1% it’s not that important”, wrong it’s very important, if a reader posts a comment and finds thats his comment was not published this is may discourage the reader and he/she might not return. Respect your readers and make sure those legit comments get published.

Good post, I never really thought to actually look at the folder. I decided too because of your post, and actually found 3 non-spam comments. Thanks for the tip man! Keep up the great work.

yes akismet and bad behavior together get about 101% of all spam, well you need to let the 1% back into your blog so your readers stay happy.
With this plugins you kill the spammers and can join the dofollow/Ifollow/nonofollow people that are sharing PR with their comment posters to encourage them. If you join the dofollow movement expect an increase in comments and traffic to your site.
For that little bit of PR you get the fresh original content in comments, think its a good deal (for me it is).

guess what .. day before yesterday I uninstalled akismet as it put legit comments as spams. It was too much for me to bear.
… anyway hey shane y dont you use the math comment instead of akismet .. it may help … you can also check http://www.clazh.com/the-best-way-to-kill-blog-spam-forever/
for more about spam prevention … I think math comment spam protector is more than enough

I tend to get a lot of legitimate comments stuck in my Akismat filter. I really don’t know why, but I also check it on a regular basis to reclaim lost comments.
Great advice!
