Blue Host Down: No Warning to its Loyal Customers
Jul. 23rd, 2007 by ShaunOk so it’s about 4:00pm on July 23rd when I get home and I decide to check up on my site to see if everything is running smoothly. I did some snoopin’ around and figured out that both of my sites on bluehost.com aren’t working but other sites on the internet are. So I go to blue host (my hosting company) and try to get some tech support, I noticed their site was running slow to. Somehow I managed to engage in an online chat with an operator “Mitch” who will explain the rest of the story to you:
Shaun[18:24]: Both of my sites that are on Bluehost.com aren’t working.
Mitch[18:24]: Unfortunately, the admin found some corruption on the drive that was leading to performance issues. He is in the process of rebuilding the /home file tree. The admin currently estimates about 2 hours before it’s back up. All your data will be fine and will be brought back up as soon as possible.
Shaun[18:24]: I have two sites with bluehost and they are both not working, is it just my two sites?
Shaun[18:25]: I even had problems loading loading bluehost.com
Mitch[18:25]: it’s a lot of sites
Shaun[18:26]: yikes good thing I wasn’t advertising today that would have cost me a lot of money
Shaun[18:27]: any idea how many other sites were affected?
Mitch[18:32]: a lot I dont’ know the number
Shaun [18:33]: thanks I hope you fix the problem soon… and you better start warning your customers
2 hours? Wow! If I was advertising today on Google with my e-commerce site and I didn’t notice my server was down I would have lost a lot of money. I would have been one pissed off customer. I didn’t get any e-mail notification, no phone call absolutely nothing. This is some poor service, they need to get off their asses and get on their mass e-mail program thingys and start warning their customers.
My message to Blue host: YOU BETTER HAVE A DAMN GOOD APOLOGY TO THE OTHER SITES WHO LOST A CRAP LOAD OF MONEY BECAUSE OF YOU… Grr! I’m pissed ![]()

Wow, that sucks! They should apology for downtime like that.
I was without internet for the whole weekend. I doubt I will get anything from my internet provider.

That sucks. I’ve heard about things like that on bluehost before. I haven’t had any problems with godaddy’s hosting server yet. Knock on wood!

Thomas this was my hosting company not my ISP. If i was advertising I would have gotten charged for the clicks to my site but the visitors would not be able to see my site.
I didn’t know that blue host had this bad rep. I might consider switching.

Is bluehost that bad? I have been using it for a few months and I do not have any problems with them yet.
But it’s true, if I were to do adwords on my website and the host is down, all the money will go down the drain. And you know what is the worst thing? A customer may tried to click 2 or 3 times on the same ad just to see if the link is really not working. So there will be more money going down the drain.

yup exactly that’s who knows how much they cost other people.

I just started using BlueHost and have experienced 2 downtimes in the last two weeks. But the downtime only lasted for 30 minutes. I just have one complain that BlueHost does not notify its users about the downtime.

I agree. I guess I was fortunate that my domains didn’t have any downtime. Although, BlueHost really does have superior customer support. Brinkster is the worst.

They do have good customer support I must agree with that.
