Choosing a domain name

Naming your blog is a failry easy yet critical step in the process of creating a new blog. There are a few simple rules bloggers should keep in mind when picking the domain name for any new site.

  • -Domain name must be easy to remeber: If you cover multiple topics on your site such as football, basketball, and baseball come up with a name that covers all 3 of your niches instead of a name like “The-football-basketball-baseball-blog.com”. A simple name such as “Sportsblog.com” is the more appropriate choice and your readers will find this name much easier to remeber and faster to type into any browser. Your domain should be easy to type, easy to remeber, and should be as short as possible.
  • -Domain name should describe your blog:  Chances are that the majority of your visitors will see a link to your blog before getting the chance to actually read it (in search engines for example). If your readers can figure out what your blog is about just by viewing your domain name odds are the readers will visit your blog just based on that. Not only will you attract more targeted readers this will also greatly increase your SEO. A blog I visit fairly often, www.quickonlinetips.com, is a great example of a domain describing the content found within the blog.
  • -Domain names should end in .net or .com: Obviously .com is the most widley used domain extension and it is just human nature that your readers will feel more comfortable reading a website with a dot com extension. In a SEO standpoint there is no difference between .com or .net but your readers will feel more comfortable in a .com environment. If you are a serious blogger picking a domain name which is your real life name is fine  .
