How many posts should you have on your home page?

This is one of those things that doesn’t really have a right or wrong answer, it is entirely up to the blog owner. Anyone using wordpress as their blogging platform the default setting will show 10 posts on your home page. I haven’t changed that since I started this site because I don’t see any problems with displaying your 10 newest posts. This will allow maximum visits to your older posts, if you were to only show 3 or 5 posts on your home page then the majority of your older posts will get substantially less visits.

Showing less posts on your home page will increase your website load time, if your interested in knowing your website speed time go here, but personally I don’t think it will load noticeably faster.

Showing less than 10 posts forces your readers to surf around your site and probably waste their time. I think it’s just easier to have more information on your home page to gain maximum exposure for your older posts. Other famous blogs like John Chow, Engadget, ProBlogger and Dosh Dosh have more than 5 pots on their home page.

What do you think is the best amount of posts to have on your home page? Please share with the rest of us. If you liked this post please:

Currently I’m displaying only 2 posts, due to the TOS for Adsense. I incorporate Adsense within my content, so that is 2 ad blocks right there (they only allow 3 as of today and I have another ad block on the page).

Prior to using Adsense I displayed as many as 4 posts on my homepage, just to give my posts longer exposure.
