How to write effective titles
Jul. 18th, 2007 by ShaunTechnology makes it incredibly easy to produce content, whether we communicate text, video or audio. With that being said people’s attention span is getting shorter and shorter. Bloggers have under 3 seconds to grab the attention of the reader. Sometimes the reader will not go even further than reading the title of your post which explains the importance of properly named titles, this can be the difference between skipping your posts or getting hooked in and engaged in your writing.
Your title must reflect what your content is about
If you were to make a post titled “Getting rich online” and your post were only a few ideas that have the potential to make money online you would most definitley grab the readers attention. The problem with the title is that it does not reflect your content within the post and more importantly your readers will be aware of this and you will loose a great deal of readership trust and eventually you will see your traffic to start declining. It is your job to make your titles catchy however you must deliver the information you promise in your post or else you risk loosing your credibility as a blogger.
Your title must grab the readers attention
Your title is #1 in terms of making a first impression with your post. This can either make or break a great post. The title of your article must easily and immediately communicate what the remainder of your post will be written about and your readers now have the choice to continue reading or move on. Copyblogger has a nice post on 10 Sure-Fire Headline Formulas That Work.
Your title must be search engine friendly
Write your headlines for humans and not for Google spiders or engine robots. You can tweak the title and the keywords within the title without risking the quality of the title. You can use a Keyword Suggestion Tool to assist you picking terms that people are searching for.

Yea, I try to use good keywords in my title also by thinking about what words I would google if I wanted to find information pertaining to my blog entry. I think the order of the keywords can definitely affect google search results also. I’ve seen my entries beat and lose to other blog entries just because of a rearrangement of keywords.
