How Well Do Blogs Perform In Search?

There are a lot of people that will tell you that you need a blog because it’ll perform better in search engines and gain more traffic. This is not completely false, but it’s not exactly true either.

Blogs tend to perform better because of the abundance of content. Blogs empower users to create content in a way that is easy and fun. By doing so, users are creating content on a daily, or weekly, basis.

More content means more traffic and links. This is more for search engines to index, more for users to link to, and more to share with their friends and co-workers.

More visitors can then lead to more sales and conversions. The more eyeballs that are in front of your content, the better the opportunity to turn them into your customer.

The same could be done on a website, but that doesn’t happen. People view blogs as something different than a website. This is probably because most website were built back in the day when you pushed a page live and then had to add a link in the navigation and it was all very technical. With blogs, those technical items get removed as blogs automatically do all the work of updating navigation, categories, feeds, and even pinging the search engines of new content.

Search engines like content, and they like fresh content. Blogs make this easy by giving the users the tools to create content easily. This in turn makes search engines happy and bring more visitors to your site. So, in a way, blogs do perform better in search, but it’s because users are posting more often and interacting with them more than traditional websites.

What do you feel are advantages to having a blog as compared to a traditional website?

Hi Thomas, nice article. I agree with you that the advantages of a blog is that you can make much more content faster and simply compared to html sites. I only make blogs now, and they seem to work the best for me.

I think blogs are an advantage in the search engines, according to how my sites rank. Blogs are the fastest to get indexed, and seem to receive higher page ranks in my opinion.

I think one of the main advantages of having your website use a blogging platform is the quick indexing aspect of blogs, I know on my personal blog they are always indexed quickly and the pages appear less than 1 hour on Google’s index.

Till then,

Jean

Really, the faster indexing is my primary reason to prefer blogs. Not to mention the usage is far easier for me as well.

I agree about the faster indexing and that’s why I’ve been meaning to re-do my site as a blog soon.

Seems like blogging is the way to go for search engines, the index them quickly. They are not too hard to set up from a CMS standpoint.

This design is spectacular! You obviously know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

Hi there this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your artical is indeed simple yet retains a little elegance and also grace. And while using options and even customization you have enabled, I’m sure it is going to appeal to numerous bloggers. It’s rather commendable that you would want to let united states, the end users, to contain a wide range of themes for our blogs. Keep them all coming!

I’m not sure how decent the conversion rates are because the ad itself is too short to sell the benefits of subscribing IMO but it would be interesting to see what effect the subscribe thing has on the ad’s CTR.

Blogs are doing increasingly better in searches. Nowadays, most results I see in the first pages of the search are blogs more often than not.
