Increase Blog Traffic - Part 5 - Ping Your Site

When you ping your site you notify blog directories and blog search engines that you have updated your blog. The more sites that you ping the better the chances you will get traffic from those sites. Below is a list of sites you can use to ping your blog everytime you update it.

There are a lot of pinging services out there and taking the time to individually ping each site would take hours. You can include a list of pinging services you want to have notified everytime you update your blog which is found in your “Options” tab in WordPress. Nate Whitehill has a step-by-step guide explaining how to include these pinging services in your WordPress options, check out the guide here. Follow Nate’s guide, include my list when you get to Step # 4 and you will never have to ping again!

Shaun, on the link you provide many people talk about the delay, and using other services. What is your take on this. Also do you think pinging other services is really worth it ? Have you noticed any change in traffic ?

@ becky: no delay at all for me. I have read other blogs that have been getting a delay when they attempt to publish their posts but for some reason I get none, try it out and if you get a delay then maybe stop.

I have been getting some traffic from these sites normally less than 5 visitors per day I think it’s worth it. I think over time I will see the traffic increase from these sites though I’m not to sure.

Thanks for the comment!

@simon: no problem I always enjoy stumbling good articles!

Nice list there, I’ll definitely look into it. Thanks for stumbling my article, feel free to stumble as many as you like, in return I’ll digg yours :)).

I used to have a huge list of places I ping but I just don’t bother anymore. Let them find me :)

I rely heavily on Feedburner’s PingShot option that when activated, Feedburner notifies when new content is published. Ping-o-matic, Newsgator, Technorati, Bloglines, Google Blog Search Pinging Service are a few of them… And with Ping-o-matic, you can send to an additional 22 or so other services.

I think pinging is a great way to increase blog traffic. The way I just did my website, I’ve got it set up to auto-ping my designated list after each post.

I’m learning that it’s also important when you ping and don’t ping. Overuse could be considered a “bad thing” by the search engines. :(

Another Great Post Shaun.

Yeah, even I didn’t knew many of these. BTW, I use No Ping Wait, and don’t see any difference in my traffic :( I also use PingGoat.com but still… No traffic! :(

Hey Shaun,

Question on this…possibly silly one, but I remember a while ago(quite awhile) looking into this and seeing that rpc.pingomatic.com included a whole host of other sites. And then I read some things about double pinging being seen as SPAM. Again, I apologize for my ignorance here, but I’d hate to not be using pinging to its full potential!
