Produce higher quality of work by listening to music

Listen To Music To Increase Productivity

Listening to music to increase work and productivity isn’t exactly new’s to the world but from my own personal experience I can say that this is a simple yet highly effective method for making me work better. I listen to music to get me through all of the boring times of studying for school, blogging, driving and at work.

When I pop on some good tunes I notice an instant increase in mental focus and creativity. Some say that music can be compared to a “lullaby” which soothes our part of the brain that encumbers our creative mind. You don’t necessarily have to be listening to the music or paying attention to the words but your brain will be subconsciously picking up all of the beats, notes and rhythms.

Listening to music which you enjoy most can often times have a positive effect on your mood. When I’m in a bad mood or upset about something I’ll just turn on some happy music to help me wash away all of my unpleaseant emtions and I can focus on whatever needs to be done.

I listen to music 99% of the time when I’m blogging or indulging in other blogging related tasks. It’s something I’ve been doing since day one and I couldn’t imagine working without it. Music blocks out any outside distractions, helps me overcome writers block and helps my fingers type sentences that I didn’t even know I could write. Some tasks become repetitive and I find that using the rhythm from the music to coincide with whatever I am working on gets me through it much easier.

All of us have different tastes in music so try to listen to music that helps control and improve your mood. Listening to “uplifting” music is the best way to entertain, revive, and discharge any negative emotions.

Do any of you listen to music while your keeping busy? What kind of music do you find best for increasing productivity?

Here is my little list of “uplifting” music that always takes my mind off the outside world so I can focus on work.

Prodigy- Breathe
Eminem- Fight Music
Andrew W.K- Party Hard
Timberland- The Way I Are
Marlyn Manson- The Beautiful People
Rage Against The Machine- Renegades Of Funk
Three Days Grace- Riot
T.I- Bring Em Out
Outkast- Bombs Over Baghdad
Joe Buddens- Fire
Foo Fighters- All My Life
Basement Jax- Where’s Your Head At
Eminem- Loose Yourself
Jay Z Ft. Linkin Park - Numb
Rob Zombie - Living Dead Girl
Kayne West - Stronger

I’m a huge fan of music and I listen to all genres. Please feel free to add to the “Blogging Music List“. I dare you :)

Music is and has been a huge part of my life. I listen to music off and on during blogging too, and many other things. It helps me focus at times, as you mentioned.

I have a problem as I get older tho’ - I cannot remember track titles and lyrics. So, I can only add band/artiste names or genres :) :

Anything Prodigy (especially the older stuff before Jilted Generation)
Metal - lots of death, power, gothic, black metal (feeling the new Iced Earth)
Happy Hardcore
Oldskool Hardcore
Drum & bass
K-pop…

I know I’m weird, everyone tells me so. I just don’t like to listen to music if I’m trying to work. I don’t even own an mp3 player. I hate earbuds.

Don’t get me wrong, I like music but when I listen to it I like to concentrate on it and I like to listen in a room at high volume. If I’m trying to work or write music is a distraction even if it’s just in the background.

I’m sure part of it is because I’m an aspiring musician and I want to listen to the intricacies (sp?) of the music.

Bottom Line - I’m easily distracted. I do my best thinking in absolute silence.

@ haris: Weird man lots of people that I know listen to music to make them happy and work better :)

@ YC: right on man your just like me you listen to pretty much everything, I don’t have a favorite band or genre in particular but I do like some bands more than others.

@ ad tracker: haha that’s not too weird at all i can see where your coming from though sometimes I like to just sit and listen to music and nothing else, I can focus on the lyrics and instruments being played. i do this a lot more with some of my favorite bands or music that I normally don’t listen to so I can gain appreciation for them. Thanks for the comment!!

You bet I listen to music while doing just about anything! I’m sure most people have heard of the ‘Mozart Effect” by now too.

By the way I love the picture of the adorable little baby listening to music.

@ madhur: I love eminem one of my favorite artists, I’m not a big fan of bon jovi but I am familiar with all of his songs. I haven’t heard any westlife. I’ll check them out tonight!

@ zhereford: yup i read about the mozart effect a while ago it’s interesting stuff. I got that pic just from browsing around on flickr.com :)

@dave: Music at work would be very helpful lol. Did you mean you listen to Slayer? If thats what you meant to type im not a big fan that style of music is too heavy for my likings and I find it hard to understand whats going on in most of their songs. Lots of people like slayer here though so maybe it’s just me who doesnt like the,m

I always listen to music when I blog, study or work.

You’ve got a wide range of music types there! For me, I usually like to listen to ‘world’ type music. Usually not being able to understand the words but focus on the melody, helps me get focused.

@susan: oh ok that makes sense I’m not to sure what world type is though I’m assuming it’s more classic style of music?

Breakcore is very messy form of electronic music with lots of fast chopped up bass and heavy bass. Not for everyone :)

You should definitely check out dubstep. Can’t get enough of that style right now.

I have been listening to Jack Johnson for the past few months while I work. It is just the best sort of feel good music out there. You can’t beat songs titled “Banana Pancakes”. :c) Good post!
