I don't tolerate meaningless comments on my blogs and this means having a great content/comments by my visitors. But at the same time, I do accept negative but not derogatory messages.

I just delete all idiotic comments and spam. The rest goes. My readers are entitled to their own opinion even if it might be negative.

Freedom of speech is an unalienable basic human right, and censorship does a tippity toe around this. I agree that unrelevant, downright dirty or nasty comments need to be cut, but the line has to be very clearly drawn.

Modern use of language include a fair amount of obscene words, that would've been unacceptable a couple of years ago, so one has to judge everything in context. That is the challenge with censorship.

You can't be too prudish, nor too liberal. Finding the happy middle road is the desirable objective here.

If you host a party at your office and someone comes in off the street, spouting obscenities and saying comments that are patently offensive to the rest of the participants, should you ask that person to leave? Of course you should. That’s because they’re violating the standards of behavior expected of people at a business party or other social event.
